Primarily a freshman level course, this course addresses the basic biological and laboratory practices necessary to understand the structures, functions and categorization of life. Students will engage in a variety of activities to employ the STEM skills of technical reading and writing, use of technology, collaboration and communication to satisfy scientific inquiry. Concepts in this course will support the Common Core as well as address the New Generation Science Standards.
Successful completion of the course is dependent upon the direct and effective participation of student in projects, discussions, assignments and assessments. It is the ultimate goal of the instructor that students understand how the process of science is used to improve the quality of lives, prepare students with the concepts necessary to pass state mandated assessments and equip our students with the skills and knowledge needed to pursue STEM careers.
This course follows the completion of Biology I and is a continuation of concepts address in Biology I. Biology II offers a more specific approach to learning more in depth about the organisms of the Kingdoms. Students in Biology II will be expected to perform laboratory practices, projects and research on a more independent level where their inquiry drives their learning while adhering to state standards. Students in Biology II will continue to engage in technical reading and writing to prepare for the comprehensive End of Course Exams NMSBA and PARCC assessments.
Created for juniors who have successfully passed Biology I & II to revisit biology concepts and get a deeper understanding through application. This course is designed to investigate topics that encourage the use of STEM skills and explore college and careers in the STEM fields.
This course fulfills the credit requirement for graduation of physical education. Designed teach basic fitness and sport fundamentals, it allows students the opportunity to learn the various methods to build and maintain fitness. Students are required to suit out, participate and engage in meeting the challenge of improving and maintaining fitness for health and wellness benefits.
